The MP told APA that she had thought for a long time before taking this step and received the consent of her relatives. Pashayeva said that the decision on donation of organs is regarded as normal in the developed countries: “Taking this step we help someone to live. Organ donation is the donation of biological tissue or an organ of the human body, from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation. For example, we can help a person with kidney failure connected to dialysis machine by donating our kidneys that will be useless in the grave. Unfortunately, this sphere has not developed in Azerbaijan yet. Therefore, in many cases our citizens go abroad for transplantation. Of course, only the rich can afford it.”
The MP noted that the mechanisms regulating organ donation has not been legally adopted: “I hope that this issue will be seriously discussed in our country soon, the relevant executive authorities will develop and adopt legal mechanisms on the implementation of the law passed a few years ago in this regard, if necessary annexes and amendments will be made in terms of legislation, awareness-raising activities will be accelerated. I urge the authorities to pay greater attention to this issue. Although 13 years have passed since the adoption of the law, there is no significant progress in this direction.”
The MP said that she has already made a will and confirmed it: “I have made a will today and donated some organs disinterestedly, it will be a gift for those persons from me…”
If I meet with an accident or am the verge of death, my organs can be transplanted to the persons, who need organ transplantation, without any hesitation. It will be my last act of kindness before the death.
The law “On the transplantation of human organs and tissues” was adopted in Azerbaijan on October 28, 1999.
