MEDIA releases statement regarding the threat campaign against Shusha Global Forum participants

The Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MEDIA) has released a statement regarding the threat campaign on social networks against the participants of the Global Media Forum on "New Media in the 4th Industrial Revolution" held in Shusha, APA reports.

The statement reads:

"Global Media Forum on “New Media in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution", which was attended by 150 foreign guests from 49 countries of the world, including state information agencies from 34 nations, 12 international organizations, media organization leaders, and high-class media experts and journalists is characterized as a historical event with its futuristic, serious and professional messages which has an importance in international public opinion.

The aim of holding this Forum was to discuss the future development directions of journalism, which gives news of public importance to people in our world that develops with light speed and witnesses technical innovations. In the Forum, comprehensive discussions over new tools in journalism and communication in the digital era and media’s role in this context, its future, the difficulties and new directions actualized in journalism in light of new trends were discussed and also results created by implementing digital tools were in focus.

But unfortunately, the Armenian government and circles close to it which tries to politicize the meaning of the Global Media Forum on “New Media in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution”, acting out of their limited mercantile interests, conducting slander and hate campaign on the high-level experts, journalists who are influential in international public opinion participating in this esteemed event in social networks and try to overshadow their reputation and show a position that is in no way compatible with media ethics. We, as the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan condemn this smear campaign on behalf of Azerbaijani journalists, regard this as terrorism against free speech and journalism, and declare it unacceptable to use a forum dedicated to the problems and development prospects of the modern media as a tool for hate speech.”
