Today is Jabrayil City Day, marking five years since the city’s liberation from occupation, APA reports.
As a result of a successful counteroffensive by the Azerbaijani Army, which began on September 27, 2020, Jabrayil city was liberated from Armenian occupation on October 4.
On the first day of the battles, the Azerbaijani Army pushed the enemy back. Within a few days, many villages in the Jabrayil district were freed from occupation. The liberation of Jabrayil city was announced to the public by the Victorious Commander-in-Chief, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, on October 4. In his address, the President noted that on October 4, alongside Jabrayil city, nine villages of the district—Karkhulu, Shukurbeyli, Yukhari Maralyan, Chereken, Dashkesan, Horovlu, Dejal, Mahmudlu, and Jafarabad—were also liberated. Jabrayil became the first district to be freed during the 44-day Patriotic War.
The Jabrayil operation resulted in the destruction of significant Armenian military personnel and equipment.
October 4 has since been recorded as the day of Jabrayil's liberation.
The “For the Liberation of Jabrayil” medal has been established in Azerbaijan. By order of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani Armed Forces personnel who participated in the battles for the liberation of Jabrayil district and demonstrated personal bravery and courage were awarded this medal.
By order of President Ilham Aliyev, October 4 was designated as Jabrayil City Day.
Recall that Jabrayil district was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 23, 1993. During the occupation, Armenians destroyed the city and villages of the district, demolished cultural, historical, and religious monuments, desecrated cemeteries, and committed ecological destruction.
