Infant and maternal mortality rates in Azerbaijan declined, said Vugar Gurbanov, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Medical Territorial Unit Management Association (TABİB), at the event dedicated to the 5th anniversary of TABIB, APA reports.

"The number of infant and maternal deaths has decreased in Azerbaijan. If in 2019 the number of maternal deaths in our country was 21, and the number of children who died under the age of 1 was 1557, in 2022 this number was 18 and 959, respectively," he said.

He noted that the protection of maternal and child health has been one of the main priorities of TABIB for 5 years. To prevent the deaths of mothers and children in medical institutions under TABIB, Commissions were established to assess the quality of medical care. In addition to Baku, efforts were made to increase the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of gynecologists and neonatologists in the regions. Gynecology and obstetric departments have been opened in some medical institutions after major repairs.
