Gafan-Yerevan flight did not take place on August 25, APA reports.
According to Armenian sources, since an aircraft did not arrive from Yerevan to Gafan, there was no flight in the opposite direction.
Those who bought a ticket to Yerevan had to go to the capital of Armenia by taxi or private car.
Note that the Armenian government announced that from the beginning of this week, regular flights from Yerevan to the city of Gafan, which borders Azerbaijan, have been started.
However, this decision of Armenia was sharply objected to in Azerbaijan. Baku believes that since Gafan airport is located very close to the border, Armenia should have agreed with Azerbaijan on the decision to start regular flights.
“There are border and cross-border airports, including in Europe. However, in all cases, the construction and operation of these airports are regulated by international law. Armenia has no agreement with Azerbaijan regarding the Gafan airport,” Ziyafat Asgarov, Chairman of the Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption Committee of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan told APA.
According to him, when Azerbaijan constructed the Zangilan airport, the distance from the border was chosen, and even the possible strength of the wind that could affect the route was taken into account so that there was no risk of planes crossing into the Armenia territory: “But Gafan airport is very close to positions of Azerbaijan. In such a case, it is inevitable that planes will violate the airspace of Azerbaijan during landing and takeoff from the airport. Also, it is absurd for Armenia to build an airport on the border with a state in which it has not inked a peace treaty. Besides, there is every reason to think that Armenia will try to use this airport for military purposes under the name of "civil".
