“The mining industry activities of Armenia, which grossly violate international ecological norms and standards, are a serious blow to the ecology of the South Caucasus, including the Caspian Sea," Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Cartographers” Public Union and a member of the “Environmental Protection First” Coalition Mugabil Bayramov said, APA reports.
“In May of this year, we presented a map titled “Mineral raw material resources of the Republic of Armenia” to the public in three languages—Azerbaijani, English, and Armenian. Our coalition brings together NGOs that are fighting against Armenia’s illegal mining industry activities. The Armenian government has not responded to any of our inquiries or appeals. Companies operating in this field in Armenia have also been identified. Our appeals to them have also gone unanswered. However, we have not stopped for even a single day. The map titled “Mineral raw material resources of the Republic of Armenia” has allowed us to expand our activities in this direction. The "Azerbaijan Cartographers" Public Union is working on an interactive electronic map that exposes Armenia’s illegal mining industry activities.”
The interactive map will be created in three languages (Azerbaijani, English, and Armenian), allowing users to click on objects on the map to obtain detailed information and view photos and videos of those facilities. Satellite photos will also be included. He stated that the Armenian government is preventing the dissemination of the map titled “Mineral raw material resources of the Republic of Armenia” in local media: “It is disgraceful that the Armenian government is trying to keep its population in the dark about the damage they are causing to the environment. The statements and activities of the Environmental Protection First Coalition regarding environmental issues are not presented by Armenian TV channels, radios, or agencies, the ruling authorities have imposed a ban on disseminating this information in Armenia. The Armenian NGOs supporting the Coalition are labeled as "traitors" and accused of working for Azerbaijan.”
M. Bayramov also mentioned that the Armenian government will not be hide this information from the public for long, as the interactive map will open the eyes of the Armenian population, helping them understand the situation they have been thrown in:
Note that the "Azerbaijan Cartographers" Public Union was established in 2023. The organization is led by Mugabil Bayramov, an engineer-cartographer with 43 years of experience in the field of cartography, who has also headed teams that compiled the “National Atlas of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” “South Caucasus map of 1903,” and “Map of the Caucasus Region – Tbilisi 1847.”
