"The effects of climate change on water systems are also seriously felt in Azerbaijan," COP29 President and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said during a High-level roundtable on Water for Climate: Integrating Water Solutions into NDCs and NAPs Biodiversity, Water and Climate Nexus, APA reports.

He noted that water is not only a victim of climate change but also an important solution. Water is at the center of many benefits, ranging from the decline in water quality and food security to health, gender equality, and biodiversity conservation. Without water, sustainable development is impossible.

"Historically, water has remained outside the focus of global climate discussions. In recent years, efforts have been made to emphasize the importance of water, but more work is needed to fully integrate water into multilateral processes. As we continue to address the planetary crises related to climate change, bioterrorism, biodiversity loss, pollution, and desertification, water issues must be recognized as an intersecting issue. Integration is essential across all aspects of global policy. For this reason, this year, water for climate action has been prioritized," Mukhtar Babayev added.
