"The main priority of the COP29 Presidency in the negotiations is the new goal for financing climate action," Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29, said during the Parliamentary Meeting organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, APA reports.
Babayev emphasized that the COP29 Presidency is focusing on increasing ambitions related to climate change and enabling action: "Parliaments can drive stronger climate plans. Parliaments set and oversee national budgets and play a crucial role in governments' economic decisions. These will be key in financing the transition and building a climate-resilient world. We understand that there may be challenges, such as political and financial limitations. However, nothing can have a greater impact on the security and well-being of all peoples than climate change. Parliaments can help shape the political will for transformative change. This political will must be preserved both at COP29 and when we return home."
