Azerbaijan to relocate 52 families to villages of Vangli and Kolatag in Aghdere

Residents of Aghdara have been informed about social protection measures and the threat of landmines, State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons told APA.

One of the main directions of state policy in the field of work with IDPs is the effective organization of their social protection.

It was noted that, based on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, ensuring the comfort and safety of former IDPs returning to their native lands is among the priority issues.

The Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Social Protection of Internally Displaced Persons and Persons Equated to Them” provides for a number of social protection measures for former internally displaced persons. One of these is the unified monthly allowance paid from the state budget, which is provided to IDPs in need of social protection. As part of the awareness-raising, advocacy, explanatory, and educational activities carried out by the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan among the population preparing to return to their native lands and settling in newly established residential areas in the territories liberated from occupation, detailed information is provided to them regarding social protection measures, including the expiration periods of the unified monthly allowance stipulated by legislation, the flow of this period, as well as the legality and necessity of this provision.

Within the framework of awareness and advocacy efforts based on the State Program on the Great Return adopted by the State Committee, a video prepared on the threat of landmines calls on people to stay alert and follow the instructions of warning signs. In addition to carrying out demining operations in the territories liberated from occupation to eliminate the threat of mines and explosive military ordnance, public awareness campaigns are also being conducted.

In this regard, the next event was held among 52 families to be relocated to the Vangli and Kolatag villages of the Aghdara district. At the event held at the State Committee, issues related to the social protection of internally displaced persons were discussed, and it was explained that the unified monthly allowance will be discontinued after a three-year period following the return of individuals to their permanent place of residence and video clips prepared on the threat of landmines were shown to the IDPs. These video clips are regularly broadcast in the media.

Recall that within the framework of the First State Program on the Great Return, in accordance with the action plan, the State Committee regularly holds awareness-raising meetings with internally displaced persons through the relevant departments, local representations, and Housing and Communal Services Departments regarding the requirements of the legislation. Informative booklets and brochures on social protection measures are prepared and distributed to internally displaced persons, and video clips are produced.
