Materials collected about the tortures against Azerbaijani captives and hostages by Armenian militants

Baku. Ramil Mammadli–APA. Public Union for Support to Captives and Hostages “Way of Grief” held press conference on Monday about the results of project “Protection of rights of the Azerbaijani citizens, captured or taken hostage during the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and then released, within the local legislation and international law”. Chairwoman of the Union Esmira Orujova said the project was carried out from August 22 until November 22 and poll conducted among 208 residents of Beylagan, Shaki, Baku and Absheron gave materials about the tortures against the Azerbaijani citizens by the Armenian militants in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Orujova said videotapes, photos and evidences of released hostages would be collected in the form of documents. “If the second part of the project is accepted by the Council of Government Support to NGOs, we will hold international conference on this issue”.

The project expert, department chief of the Human Rights Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Araz Gurbanov expressed the expert opinion on the project. Members of the Parliament Ganira Pashayeva and Fazil Gazanfaroglu spoke about the significance of the project, necessity of government support to the process and translation of materials into foreign languages.
