On June 25, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Magdalena Grono, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

The meeting included a broad exchange of views on the current state and development prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU), as well as issues on the regional agenda.

The sides emphasized that the existing political dialogue, high-level mutual visits, and intensive contacts have made a significant contribution to the development of Azerbaijan-EU relations. In this context, they noted the importance of the visit to Azerbaijan earlier this year by the President of the European Council, António Costa, in deepening mutual understanding and advancing the cooperation agenda.

The current state of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the political, economic, energy, transport, communications, and other fields, as well as the agreements reached, were reviewed.

Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov briefed the EU representative on the latest developments in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the peace agenda. He stressed the importance of making use of the existing opportunities to finalize the peace process, fulfilling commitments in a timely manner, and strengthening mutual confidence.

The parties also underscored the importance of cooperation within international organizations, including continuing dialogue and consultations between Azerbaijan and the European Union on issues of mutual interest.
