The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has submitted a petition to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) seeking consent to initiate criminal proceedings against Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party and a prominent businessman, NEWS.am reports.
According to the press service of the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office, the petition was officially submitted.
The agency's spokesperson, Arevik Khachatryan, said the Prosecutor General's Office had filed a formal motion seeking authorization to bring criminal charges against Tsarukyan.
According to the report, the initiative was put forward as part of an investigation into alleged financial violations and illegal privatization. However, the Prosecutor General's Office did not specify which particular criminal case or proceedings the request concerns.
As Gagik Tsarukyan enjoys parliamentary immunity, a final decision on bringing him to criminal liability will only be possible after receiving the consent of the Central Electoral Commission.
