Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ziya Öztürkler, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
The meeting highlighted the Parliamentary Union as a favorable platform for further deepening relations among the legislative bodies of the organization's member states and discussing a number of important issues. It was also noted that the conference had been organized at a high level under the hosting of the Milli Majlis.
The sides also exchanged views on relations between their parliaments. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that the existing contacts, mutual visits, and meetings between the speakers of parliament as well as deputies contribute to further strengthening bilateral ties. The meeting emphasized the importance of cooperation and interaction between the friendship groups in the parliaments, and the trilateral meetings of the friendship groups of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, and the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were also described as a commendable initiative.
During the conversation, the continued support provided by the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, led by President Ilham Aliyev, was highly appreciated. The Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus thanked Azerbaijan for its support.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
