Republican Seismological Service Center comments on quake reports

The center is regularly informing the people about the Zagatala quake and its aftershocks, but there are some sources, which are inspiring fear among the people using their anxiety. â€œIt is normal that aftershocks occur after the strong quake, it is necessary for discharging focus of the quake. The recent shocks in Sheki and Zagatala should be accepted as the continuation of the process. Therefore we need to avoid incorrect information and to use the reports placed on the seismological centerâ€™s websiteâ€.

The center reports that after the 7-magnitude quake in Zagatala on May 7, series of aftershocks were recorded and the public community was informed about the felt aftershocks. â€œDirector and experts of the center have been in the disaster zone since that quake. Macro-seismic observation is being continued via the five seismic stations installed in the epicenter and nearby areas. The Republican Seismological Service Center is the only organization researching and recording the quakes in Azerbaijan. The organizations working together with us also obtain information from the center. The quake reports should be spread only basing on the centerâ€.
