Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Seismic tension still remains in Zagatala region. The tension moves towards Sheki. Stress accumulation is observed in Sheki,” director general of the Republican Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Gurban Yetirmishli told APA. According to him the aftershocks continue and the tension still remains: “This condition will last several months. Aftershocks will occur, energy must be accumulated.”

Yetirmishli said that more than 2 seismic stations will be installed in the region to analyze quake in details. 5 seismic stations have been installed in the region since May 7. Another station, working on profiles, was brought to the region yesterday. More than 2 stations will be brought tomorrow and installed in the regions near Zagatala: “These stations will be installed to analyze focal zone correctly. Beside these, the centre has stationary stations in Zagatala, Gabala, Ismayilli, Mingachevir, Shaki, Khinalig, Guba, Gusar and Shabran. This area was completely covered by network of stations. These temporary stations are being installed for processes occurring in the epicenter. This is sufficient for complete analysis.”

According to the director general, the seismic activity in Zagatala doesn’t crate threat for Mingachevir Reservoir: “These quakes move to the south-east not to west. So there is no any threat. I don’t believe that aftershocks will be above 7-magnitude. It is not ruled out that 4-5 magnitude quakes will occur.”
