Azerbaijani Emergency Minister: â€œMaintenance and repair works will start in quake area tomorrowâ€

Zagatala. Vugar Heydarov â€“ APA. The commissions have been working in quake-affected areas of Zagatala, Balakan and Gakh regions since yesterday. Great majority of houses damaged during the previous earthquake yesterday collapsed after 5.7-magnitude quake occurred last eveningâ€, Minister of Emergency Situations, Colonel General Kemaleddin Heydarov told APA.

Minister said that according to the last reports, 1360 disrepair houses and 20 damaged social facilities were recorded in the quake area: â€œToday we were in the villages and met with the residents. We understand the concern of people, they consider it dangerous to live in the houses. We distribute the tents among the populationâ€.

Minister said that the number of disrepair houses increased as a result of aftershocks occurred during the day following the first quake. â€œWe try to provide all distressed families with tents. We want the people not to stay outside during the reconstruction of the damaged housesâ€.

Heydarov said that Azerbaijani President gave instruction towards elimination of consequences of the earthquake: â€œMr. President gave instruction to our ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers. May be, the order will be signed on allocation of certain fund for the construction of new housesâ€.

The minister noted that the experts and construction companies have been already involved in the region: â€œThe construction companies have already determined places where they will work and a large part of the construction materials are being brought here. Construction works will be started here tomorrow. We will try to carry out this work in short time according to the order of the President and provide the population with more convenient and safe houses.â€

The minister addressed the citizens and advised to carry out design work regularly during the construction of private houses: â€œIt is needed to use construction materials and assistance of experts and start construction work after examining the construction materials. Construction work must be careful and regular because these areas are seismic.â€
