Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova: “Offices and facilities don’t observe the quota of disabled people’s employment”

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. There are 423,000 disabled people in Azerbaijan, 61,000 of them are children, said Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova in her speech at the conference dedicated to the European Day of Persons with Disabilities on May 5, APA reports.

Ombudsperson reminded that Azerbaijan joined 230 conventions and 2 pacts on protection of rights of people with disabilities: “These conventions offer opportunity to protect the rights of disabled people. Azerbaijan adopted 3 state programs considering the protection of rights and social protection of disabled people. It is true, the difficulties in this sphere are still remaining and there are deficits in the laws. These problems show themselves most of all during the employment of disabled people, the quota determined on employment of disabled people in the offices is not observed. The education and housing problems of the disabled people haven’t been settled yet. From the other side, the disabled people can not get the compensations fixed for them on time. The Ombudsperson’s Office made several proposals to the Parliament, including the increase of salary of nannies”.
