Residential areas on Caspian shores provided with drinkable sea water

Residential areas on Caspian shores, which have no water sources, will be provided with drinkable sea water, said Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov at the cabinet meeting dedicated to the socio-economic development results in the first half of 2009.

He said they were elaborating a pilot project for making sea water drinkable to provide population with the water resources. According to the Minister, the Caspian resources will give an opportunity to protect the country from the water deficit in future.

The minister said 122 villages of 12 regions, including the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were provided with the module water-cleaning installations, which provided the people with the drinkable water according to the standards of the World Health Organization.

The minister said six more stations of the Caspian environmental protection were put on operation in 2009 and 16 water-cleaning modules were installed in the coastal areas of Absheron peninsula.
