Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloghlu – APA. The panel session on the transformation of alternative models of journalism in the information society was organized by the Azerbaijan State News Agency – (AZERTAC) within the round table titled “Transforming of Journalism for the Information Age and its Role in Ensuring Inter-Civilizational Dialogue” during the fifth Baku International Humanitarian Forum in Baku Sept. 30.
The moderator of the panel session was Mikhail Gusman, first deputy director general of Russia’s TASS agency.
Addressing the round table, Aslan Aslanov, AZERTAC director general, noted that the Baku International Humanitarian Forum has become an influential international platform and this forum is the Azerbaijani model of humanitarian cooperation.
In his speech, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Getachew Engida stressed that the Internet revolution has had a general effect on the media and society and created the necessary environment for freedom of speech.
Quality journalism is especially important in transformational environment, Engida said, urging journalists to provide unbiased information in times of crisis and war.
Chief of Rector's Office at the ADA University Shafag Mehraliyeva spoke about the development of media, culture, literature, music in Azerbaijan and gave information about the first democratic republic in the East – Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
In his speech, Mohammad Khoddadi, managing director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), said today the people have become citizens of internet as new media is rendering new services.
“Today, the main source of information is social media, while it was Reuters, Associated-Press in 1970-1980s. Information is disseminated to a wider audience in modern times. Journalism must adapt to new realities,” he added.
Founder of Malaysian-based The Globalist Datuk Mohamad Yusof Hashim said nature of information is not critical in the Asian countries.
CEO of Ethiopia's Fana Broadcasting Corporation Woldu Yemessel Baraki and producer of Japan's World Investors Internet TV Kazuyasu Ishida also made speeches at the round table.
The 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum kicked off at the Heydar Aliyev Center, Baku on Sep.29.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the official opening ceremony of the forum.
The Baku International Humanitarian Forum was initiated in 2010 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and former Russian President, current Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
