Concerns over negative trends in Turkish media regarding Azerbaijan
"The emergence of this type of disinformation in Turkish media, which is characteristic of Russian, Iranian, Armenian, and Western media, causes deep regret within Azerbaijani society," Natig Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, told APA regarding the issue that is already becoming a negative trend in Turkish media.
Disinformation campaigns in foreign media
He noted that disinformation campaigns against Azerbaijan are occasionally observed in the information resources and social media segments of several foreign countries.
“On September 23, the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a statement on the matter. We deeply regret that fake news about Azerbaijan, spread by some media outlets with a biased stance—including the Turkish newspapers Hürriyet and Sabah—has also circulated in several major information resources, often citing questionable sources and failing to reflect the truth,” Mammadli said.
Contradiction to media cooperation
He stated that such an approach by the leading media organizations of the brotherly country contradicts the essence of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye Joint Media Platform formed by the Memorandum of Understanding “On Strategic Cooperation in the Media Field between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye” signed in 2021.
Objectives of the Joint Media Platform
Note that one of the main goals of the Joint Media Platform is to jointly combat disinformation encountered in the international arena and to properly inform the world community.
Call to Turkish institutions
“We would like to be sure that the relevant state institutions operating in the field of media and communications of the brotherly country will conduct explanatory work to prevent the increasing flow of disinformation about Azerbaijan in the Turkish media environment,” said Natig Mammadli.
