Russia provided Iran with intelligence to carry out strikes on US facilities, CNN said, quoting two American officials, APA reports.
According to the report, Russia provided intelligence to help Iran more effectively target US military facilities in the Middle East. It is reported that the Iranian side obtained satellite intelligence in particular, which was likely used to identify targets and prepare strikes.
According to CNN, these targets included the strategically important Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. An Iranian strike on the base on March 27 damaged a US AWACS airborne warning and control aircraft and injured 12 American service members.
According to an analysis conducted by the television channel together with experts, more than 10 Russian satellites passed over the air base two days before the attack. Experts believe that the movement of numerous satellites over the same area made it possible to collect extensive information about the facility.
It was reported that satellites could obtain not only ordinary images but also other intelligence data, such as intercepted radio and radar signals and thermal mapping.
CNN's sources claim that Russia may also have collected and passed intelligence to Iran about other US military facilities in the region, including a CIA base in Riyadh.
It should be noted that the Pentagon previously released its first official report on damage to US bases and military equipment in the Middle East during the war with Iran. The report stated that hundreds of assets at US facilities in the region had been damaged or destroyed and that key ammunition stockpiles had also declined. Damage to US diplomatic facilities was estimated at approximately $184 million.
