On September 16, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by President of the Pan-African Parliament Fatih Boutbig, who is visiting Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stated that the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing relations with the parliaments of African countries. In this regard, the development of parliamentary diplomacy, further expansion of interparliamentary ties and strengthening of political dialogue are of great importance.
During the meeting, information was provided on the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN) and the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO), established at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, the work carried out during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the NAM PN, and the initiatives put forward by the country.
The Speaker expressed confidence that the Pan-African Parliament would become another successful platform for developing Azerbaijan's relations with the parliaments of African states.
President of the Pan-African Parliament Fatih Boutbig emphasized that Azerbaijan was the first country he had visited outside Africa since his election to this position.
During the conversation, views were exchanged on the development of cooperation between the Pan-African Parliament and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, and other issues.
Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Pan-African Parliament and the NAM PN. The document was signed by Speaker of the Milli Majlis and Chair of the NAM PN Sahiba Gafarova and President of the Pan-African Parliament Fatih Boutbig.
