"The Khojaly Airport, the fourth in Garabagh and Eastern Zangazur, is of great strategic importance for our country and particularly for the region," Head of the press service of Azerbaijan's Airports Narmin Khalilova told APA’s Garabagh bureau.
She noted that Khojaly Airport, situated at an altitude of 575 meters above sea level, covers an area of 188.5 hectares: "Currently, the airport features a 2170-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, two taxiways, one apron, and one terminal. The apron area includes a total of three parking spots for aircraft."
Narmin Khalilova added that a series of improvements are planned to develop the infrastructure of Khojaly Airport:
“The existing runway will be extended to 3000 meters in length and 60 meters in width. Optimization works will be carried out on the Airport’s area, and it is planned that the total area will be 177.27 hectares with the apron area being 47,000 square meters. All works will be conducted in accordance with international norms and standards, bringing the airport to the most modern level.”
According to her, these efforts are aimed at ensuring high-level service and safety, which will contribute to the development of the region, its integration into the global economy, and the strengthening of regional connections.
Note that President Ilham Aliyev visited Khojaly Airport on July 5.
