Therefore the Iranian TV channels interfered in the Azerbaijan air space as far back as Soviet period. It is not a new problem. It existed at least for 50 years”, Aflatun Sharifov, Director of “Teleradio” production association of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Azerbaijan, told APA speaking about the Iran’s “ Sahar” TV channels interference in the Azerbaijan’s airspace recently. He said prevention of illegal broadcasting of the Iranian TV channels in Azerbaijan was discussed with the Iranian delegation arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission’s meeting.
Expressing opinion about the “Sahar” TV’s extension toward Baku and Shirvan, Sharifov said the cities located in the open area not surrounded with the mountains and therefore it was possible for the Iranian channels to reach these areas. Sharifov was against the idea that Iranian TV broadcasting in Azerbaijan connected with the intensive transmitters of that country. “Azerbaijani transmitters are also based on the highest technologies and are not behind Iran for its parameters. Iran, Turkmenistan and other countries also face with same problem. Azerbaijani TV channels also reach Turkmenistan’s territory over the Caspian Sea. Iran even made complaints to the International Communication Union about the Azerbaijani channels’ interference into its space”.

General Engineer of the ICT Ministry’s State Radio Frequency Office Ilham Efendiyev told APA it is not new that the Iranian channels broadcast in Shirvan, they didn’t extend area of illegal broadcasting in Azerbaijan. The General Engineer said the issue was not on agenda of the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission, but it was mentioned during the discussions on the development of cooperation between the two countries in the communication field.
