Three criminal group members planning to commit terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan sentenced to life imprisonment

APA reports that judge Afgan Hajiyev has presided over the hearing. Samir Saniyev and other two persons have been sentenced to life imprisonment and other persons to 9-15 years in prison.

The Ministry of National Security conducted anti-terror operations on the eve of the song contest last year. As a result of the operations, an organized criminal group, who was going to commit terrorist acts and make armed attacks in Baku on the eve of the contest, was rendered harmless.

The investigations found out that gang members planned to commit terrorist attack against the Azerbaijani President during his visit to the north-west region of the country in April last year, as well as to attack the law-enforcement bodies, kill the employees of these structures and seize the ammunitions in the administrative buildings, explode several sanctuaries, mosques and the shrines belonging to the other religious confessions and commit explosions in the places populated most of all by the foreigners, including Hilton Baku and JW Marriot Hotel Absheron and other hotels, as well as in Baku Crystal Hall and State Flag Square.
