Baku. Hafiz Haydarov – APA. The Chief State Traffic Police Office has made public the statistics of the traffic accidents in Azerbaijan during 26 years.
The Chief State Traffic Police Office told APA that 66 987 traffic accidents were recorded on the highways of the republic from 1988 to 2013. As a result of traffic accidents, 23 413 people died and 74 781 were injured.
Most of traffic accidents and casualties were recorded in 1991 within 26 years. 1281 people died in 3336 traffic accidents that year. Fewer traffic accidents happened in 1999-2000. 554 people died in 1996 traffic accidents in 1999 and 596 people in 1987 traffic accidents in 2000.
2 846 traffic accidents were recorded in 2013, 1 164 people died and 2948 injured.
For comparison it should be noted that Azerbaijani Armed Forces lost 14 000 servicemen, generally 30 000 people were killed in the first Karabakh war.
