Azerbaijani citizen Elchin Bunyadov was arrested following the relevant verdict issued by Bakirkoy Magistrate Court No.3. He is accused of a role in the Istanbul terrorist attack blamed on ISIL, APA’s Turkey correspondent reported.
Bunyadov’s rights were defended in court by Figen Ava Destanoglu, an attorney appointed by Istanbul’s Bar Association.
Bunyadov was charged with being a member of an armed terrorist organization and assisting the crime of planned murder. He was then sent to jail.
Meanwhile, APA has managed to get the court protocol, which makes it clear that Bunyadov’s attorney expressed disagreement with the indictment of his client.
"We do not agree with the accusations. The defendant lives in Turkey. His address is known. Considering the abovementioned, I demand that the investigation continue either without arresting him or under the control of judicial authorities,” the attorney said.
However, the court denied the attorney’s demand and issued an order on arrest.
In addition to Bunyadov, three more foreign citizens were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the attack. The court decided to notify the consulates of their countries of the decision.
Note that 45 people were killed and 236 wounded as three suicide bombers blew themselves up at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport on June 29. 13 people have been arrested over the incident. Four of them, including Bunyadov, are foreign nationals.
