Republic Perinatal Center doctor sentenced over mother and baby death

The lawyer of the affected party Javad Javadli told APA that judgment was passed at the trial presided by Ibrahim Ibrahimli. Hasanov has been sentenced to 2 and a half years imprisonment.

Javadli said they would file an appeal against the judgment.

Mother and her baby died in Azerbaijan Republican Perinatal Center on May 14. 26-year old Fataliyeva Maral Umidvar died during cesarian operation. Fataliyeva, who was going to become mother for the third time, was 5 months pregnant.

Doctor Hasanov faced charges under article 314.2 (negligence resulted in death or other serious consequences) of the Criminal Code.

Health Ministry's press service said that 26-year old Fataliyeva Maral had previously undergone operations twice during childbirth. As her condition deteriorated, she was immediately operated on May 14. Despite the measures taken, it was impossible to save the mother. Mother's diagnosis was obstetric complications.
