In protest of judges, Insanov refused to participate in the hearing. The hearing was continued in his absence. In his speech, the state prosecutor demanded to uphold the judgment on Insanov.
The hearing will be continued on February 25. The judgment will be passed on that day.
The judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the former Azerbaijani Minister of Health Care Ali Insanov was considered at the Plenary Meeting of Supreme Court. According to the decision passed at the Plenary Meeting the judgments of Court of Appeal and Supreme Court on Ali Insanov were abolished. The judgment passed by the court of first instance remained unchanged and Ali Insanov wasn’t released. The case was sent to Baku Court of Appeal for reinvestigation.
On March 14, 2013, the European Court of Human Rights announced its judgment on the appeal of Ali Insanov, the former health minister of Azerbaijan. According to the judgment, Ali Insanov’s appeals on article 3 (prohibition of torture and of inhuman or degrading treatment), Article 6 § 1 and 3 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights were ensured. Under the judgment, the Azerbaijani government is to pay € 10 000 compensation to Ali Insanov.
