Prison term extended for some of those arrested over armed incident between religious groups in Sumgayit

Under the decision of Sumgayit City Court, the prison term of 6 of 17 people has been extended to two months. The prison term of the others is expected to be extended soon.

Sumgayit residents Anar Rahimov and Elmar Mammadli were stabbed and residents of Teze Jorat settlement Elshan Musayev and Elnur Nazaraliyev received shrapnel wounds as a result of the armed incident between Kharijites and Salafists on December 11, 2013.

As a result of the investigation and search operations carried out by police and prosecuting officers 17 people were arrested over the incident.

As a result of the inspection, 110 grams hashish, 5 kg substances similar to mercury,

44 various religious books prohibited by law, 30 CD discs were found and seized from Ahmad Salmanov’s apartment, one F-1 grenade, one grenade lighter, 123 cartridges for slot machine, 30 various religious books prohibited by law, 30 CD discs from Kanan Mehraliyev’s apartment.

It was found out that Musayev was stabbed in the head and body.

Investigation is underway.
