Penitentiary Service: Leyla Yunusâ€™ concerns about detention conditions completely groundless

Isakov said that Leyla Yunus’ concerns about detention conditions are completely groundless.

“All defendants in Baku Detention Facility make full use of the rights envisaged in the law "On ensuring the rights and freedoms of persons held in detention" (telephone calls, medical assistance, meeting with lawyers, walking, receiving parcels and packages). Leyla Yunus’ false claims about the alleged provocation against her are aimed at attracting public attention. The Penitentiary Service reiterates that the security of detainees is protected by the law. Inhumane treatment among inmates is unacceptable and it is fully guaranteed by the Penitentiary Service. As for health claims about Leyla Yunus, we want say that she was examined and treated by the experts of Main Medical Department of the Justice Ministry.

The administration of Baku Detention Facility created the conditions for the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to visit Leyla Yunus and the ICRC employees didn’t drop remarks on the management over her detention conditions.
