Hafiz Heydarov - APA. “As a result of the operations continued by the Ministry of National Security, one more person has been detained over the criminal case launched on plans to commit terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan and obtain firearms, munitions, explosives,” head of Public Relations Center of the Ministry of National Security Arif Babayev said answering APA’s questionnaire regarding the criminal case launched on fatwa issued to start jihad with the purpose of stirring up hatred and discrimination in Azerbaijan and calls to kill Akhund of Mashadi Dadash mosque in Baku.
Babayev said Azerbaijani Ahmadov ELkhan Oktay has been arrested and sentenced to pre-trial detention.
Investigation is underway to determine other participants of the illegal actions.
It was found out that using firearms and accessories to it, Nariman Mirzayev, Mirzahmad Rustamov and others agreed in April, 2012, to commit a terrorist attack to violate public safety, horrify the people, cause damage to them or their property. Nariman Mirzayev, Mirzahmad Rustamov and others obtained, stored and carried a great deal of firearms, ammunitions. Planning to blast Mashadi Dadash mosque in Yasamal district, Baku, they made observations around it. In order to avoid the chase of law-enforcers and show armed resistance after committing the crime Nariman Mirzayev told Mirzahmad Rustamov to arrange special places to hide in the forest in Gusar region. After completing the preparations, Nariman Mirzayev posted notices on Facebook calling to start jihad and kill Akhund Shahin Hasanov. But they failed to complete the crime they planned.
As a result of the urgent operations carried out by the Ministry of National Security, Nariman Mirzayev and Mirzahmad Rustamov were detained. A large number of firearms and ammunition were seized from them and their houses.
