Man threatening to blow up himself and his house in Ganja identified - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Ganja. Azer Mammadli – APA. The man threatening to blow up himself and his house in Ganja has been identified.


Ganja City Police Office told APA’s local bureau that the detainee is 32-year old Aflatun Abdiyev. The woman who was along with him in the house is 28-year old Gulnar Nabiyeva. Nabiyeva was his common law wife.

According to preliminary reports, the cause of the incident was a dispute between them.

"F-1" hand grenade was seized from Abdiyev. Nabiyeva was also detained and taken to the police station.

Investigation is underway on the fact.

APA’s correspondent reports from the site that a middle-aged man threatened to blow up himself and his house with a hand grenade on the third floor of a five-story building in Ganja today at 12:20. A woman was reportedly along with him in the house. Holding a grenade that person threatened to blow up the house on the balcony with a woman.

Police officers surrounded the house. Forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were deployed on the site. Security measures were taken. The chief of Ganja City Police Office and Prosecutor also arrived in the site.
That person was detained and taken to the police station. The house is currently being searched.

Chief of Ganja City Police Office, Colonel Faig Shabanov told APA that the man was convinced through negotiations and the purpose of his action is being clarified. He refuted the reports that he took five police officers hostage.
