Leader of a religious group arrested in Sumgayit - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov - APA. Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement on the recent arrests in Sumgait.

APA reports quoting the website of the Ministry that as a result of investigation and search operations carried out by police and prosecuting authorities, Elchin Huseynov and previously convicted Vugar Abdullayev were detained over the armed incident in Sumgayit on December 11.

A revolver, 47 different cartridges, 2 knives, 1 iron baton, different religious books prohibited by law, 81 disks were seized from Abdullayev’s house.

The number of the persons arrested over the armed incident between religious groups has reached 16.

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov - APA. One more person has been detained over the armed incident between religious groups in Sumgayit.

Sumgayit city police office told APA that Ilkin Akbar Akbarov, 34, known as the leader of Wahhabis in Sumgayit was arrested. He was one of the main organizers of the armed incident between Kharijites and Salafists in Sumgayit on December 11. A lot of weapons and religious books were seized from Akbarov.

The number of the persons arrested has reached 14.

Operations are underway to detain other participants of the incident.

Sumgayit residents Anar Rahimov and Elmar Mammadli were stabbed and residents of Teze Jorat settlement Elshan Musayev and Elnur Nazaraliyev received shrapnel wounds as a result of the armed incident between Kharijites and Salafists on December 11.
