Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. The Interior Ministry has released information on the arrest of Fikrat Faramazoglu, the editor-in-chief of jam.az news website.

According to the information, the owner of a restaurant situated in Baku’s Khatai district appealed to the Interior Ministry, complaining about jam.az publishing articles aimed at defaming the restaurant. In return of deleting the articles from the website, Faramazoglu demanded from him AZN 1,000, which was paid, and demanded that the restaurant’s owner should pay a monthly amount of AZN 5,000 in order that no more articles are written against the restaurant.

The investigations justified the complainer’s points and Fikrat Faramazoglu was caught red-handed while taking AZN 3,000 from the same person for the same purpose on June 30.

A criminal case has been opened on the fact under the Article #182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code and the journalist was sentenced to pre-trial detention.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Faramazoglu and a group of people were engaged in racketeering against numerous businessmen and officials by blackmailing them with the spread of defamatory information about them.

Other citizens whose names are known to the investigation have also appealed to the police.

Investigation is underway into the fact.
