At the hearing presided by judge Ilgar Murguzov, Ahmadova said the fact that she is held behind bars physiologically affects her: “There are enough women accused of fraud at Baku Detention Facility. None of them are kept behind bars. I am supporting the statehood in any case. People sitting nearby are my friends and family. We are filing this petition in accordance with the European Convention.”
The judge said that this is more expedient.
The lawyer also filed a petition to make audio or video recordings of the hearing.
The court didn’t let making audio or video recordings of the hearing.
Following this, lawyer Afsar Talibov said that court of first instance didn’t investigate the case objectively.
Then Ahmadova delivered a speech: “I should prove that I am innocent. History will acquit me. I ask and demand you to hold a hearing in accordance with the legislation not with the Sharia.”

Gular Ahmadova repudiated from her mandate as MP due to the scandal video released by former rector of Azerbaijan International University Elshad Abdullayev in September last year. Gular Ahmadova was sentenced to pretrial detention on February 13.
Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Gular Ahmadova to 3-year imprisonment. The facts that it is her first crime, she has minor child, her social activities, election as an MP for three terms, suffering from various illnesses were taken into account as mitigating circumstances. Her lawyer appealed against this judgment.
Ahmadova faced charges under article 178.3.2 (acquisition of another property by abusing of trust) and 307.2(not informing about known preparing or committed minor serious or serious crimes) of the Criminal Code.
