Court sentences man who in Elshad Abdullayev’s video introduced himself as president’s security service officer

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. Baku Court of Grave Crimes has today held a hearing on the cases of Natig Babashov, who has been mentioned on a video-record released by Elshad Abdullayev, the rector of the closed Azerbaijan International University, and Mirsahib Majidov, who was accused of fraud under the pretext of recruiting to the university.

APA reports that a judgment was passed at the hearing. Under the judgment, both persons were sentenced to 7-year imprisonment.

In a video released by Elshad Abdullayev, Natig Babashov introduced himself as president’s security service officer and promised to bring back Mahir Abdullayev.

Majidov took money from a person promising to recruit him or her to the closed Azerbaijan International University and was declared wanted basing on that person’s appeal.

As a result of search operations conducted by employees of Binagadi District Police Office, Majidov was detained.

Both persons faced charges under Criminal Code’s article 178 (fraud).

The defendants filed appeals against the court judgment.
