The court rejected the appeal.
According to the indictment, businessman coming from Russia Ramzan Salimov appealed to Elman Mammadov for employment. Mammadov introduced him to judge of the Baku Court on Grave Crimes Hasan Aliyev. Hasan Aliyev took AZN 600,000 from Salimov for employment. However, he didn’t give back the money. After that Salimov appealed to police. Upon his complaint, a criminal case was launched and Mammadov was arrested. Later, it was revealed that a person named Taleh Suleymanov took part in the crime and he was arrested too.
The Ganja Court on Grave Crimes sentenced Elman Mammadov to 8 years in prison, Taleh Suleymanov to 7 years. Hasan Aliyev was sentenced to 7 year-imprisonment and arrested in the court room.
They appealed against the judgment. They wanted the appeal to be considered by the Baku Court of Appeal. Public prosecutor addressed the Ganja Court of Appeal and said that as the criminal case was considered by the Ganja Court on Grave Crimes, the appeal should be investigated by the Ganja Court of Appeal. The prosecutor filed a petition for sending the case to the Ganja Court of Appeal. The judges upheld the petition. Hasan Aliyev filed a cassation appeal against the judgment.
Under the order of President Ilham Aliyev, Hasan Aliyev’s powers were terminated for his repeated flagrant violation of the law.
