Azerbaijani mujahid killed in Syria identified - <span style="color: red;">EXCLUSIVE

According to APA’s monitoring, the Azerbaijani mujahid, who was a member of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and killed by Free Syrian Army yesterday, was Sumgayit resident Rahman Shikhaliyev. He was a boxer and yielded good results in the national boxing championships in 2010-2011. He joined the religious groups in 2011. First, Shikhaliyev went to Turkey and then to Syria.

 

Vice President of Azerbaijan’s Boxing Federation Aghajan Abiyev told APA that Rahman Shikhaliyev had trained since 2011 and then he left the sports: “There was such a sportsman. But he left sport in 2011. Coaches attempted to contact him, but they failed. ”

 

Azerbaijani mujahid aka Abdurrahman, who was a member of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), was killed by Free Syrian Army. He was reportedly from Sumgayit city. He was a boxer. According to reports, the Azerbaijani mujahid’s family is also in Syria. His brother Suleyman is currently fighting in Syria.

 

A group of Azerbaijani citizens went to Syria and fought among the radical groups. Nearly 100 Azerbaijanis have been killed in these fights. Photos of most of them have been posted on the social networks.
