APA reports that state officials, MPs, his relatives and friends attended the farewell ceremony at the Republic Chess Center.

Following the ceremony, Hashimov was buried in the 3rd Alley of Honor.

Baku – Gulnar Bashirova – APA. A farewell ceremony has started for outstanding Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Hashimov, who died at Heidelberg clinic, Germany.

APA reports that the ceremony is being held at the Republic Chess Center.

 

Following the 3-hour ceremony, Vugar Hashimov will be buried in the 3rd Alley of Honor. A funeral repast will be given at Tezepir mosque.

Vugar Hashimov died on January 11. His body was taken to Baku tonight by a special plane.

 

Vugar Hashimov was born on July 24, 1986 in Baku. He is three times Azerbaijani national chess champion. He played in the gold medal-winning Azerbaijani team at the European Team Chess Championship in Novi Sad in 2009 and became winner of Reggio Emilia chess tournament in 2011. Hashimov died from brain tumor.
