Azerbaijanâ€™s Deputy Prosecutor General: â€œNone of the 47 Armenians, who were under the supervision of State Security Committee, were injured in Sumgayit unrestsâ€

Questionnaires have been submitted to the law-enforcement bodies of Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova to get information about the members of the investigation group of the USSR Prosecutor’s Office, said First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov at the presentation of his book “Sumgayit, 1988, Crime and punishment” dedicated to Sumgayit unrests, APA reports.

Usubov noted that one of the emissaries of Sumgayit-based Krunk organization was an Armenian colonel Kalantarov, who had been sent from Karabakh to Sumgayit as military commissioner. He was aware of the list and addresses of all Armenians there: “The case named “Nalyotchik” kept in the archives of the Ministry of National Security has revealed that there were 47 extremist-nationalist people of Armenian descent under the supervision of local KGB department and none of them were included in the list of those who were injured during the unrests. These facts prove once more that Armenians nationalists, who contacted with Krunk society, survived.”

Rustam Usubov said the current investigation found out that most of the Armenians killed in Sumgayit are those who refused to voluntarily contribute to Krunk organization functioning in Nagorno Karabakh Province. With the view of ensuring thorough and objective investigation, questionnaires were sent to the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Republic, State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, Interior Ministry, National Security Ministry, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Transport Ministry, Supreme Court, Trade Unions Confederation, Sumgayit executive authorities, Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, some media outlets of the republic and Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, most of the questionnaires were responded.
