Armed incident occurs at Azerbaijani-Iranian border, Azerbaijani major dies, 2 military servicemen wounded

Lankaran. Aghaddin Babayev - APA. An armed incident has occurred between trespassers and border guards at the Azerbaijani-Iranian border, one serviceman died, two were wounded.

State Border Service’s press service told APA that the incident occurred on 1 December around 19:30 at the service territory of the State Border Service's Lankaran Border Squad. The incident took place while preventing trespassers from crossing the border, as a result of which one serviceman died and two were wounded. The wounded have received first aid, their situation is satisfactory.

According to APA’s regional correspondent, the armed incident occurred in the territory of Lerik region. After incident, ambulance of Lankaran Emergency Medical Aid Station has evacuated the wounded servicemen to the Lankaran City Central Hospital.

Serviceman died in the incident is 37 year old major Magsud Nagiyev. 50 year old Lieutenant-Colonel Azer Shafiyev and 29 year old Vugar Vahabov have been wounded. Both wounded servicemen will be evacuated to the hospital in Baku.

No information is given about the details of the incident.

The State Border Service and Azerbaijani Military Prosecutor's Office have launched investigation into the incident.
