13 people already arrested over armed incident in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan

The Interior Ministry’s press service told APA that as a result of the investigation and search operations carried out by police and prosecuting officers, one F-1 grenade, one bayonet, 30 cartridges, one holder, one laptop, 3 various religious books prohibited by law were found and seized from the apartment of Anar Rahimov, who was stabbed in the armed incident in Sumgayit on December 11, and one sporting gun, one bayonet, 26 audio CDs, 31 cartridges with various calibers from the apartment of Elnur Nazaraliyev, who received shrapnel wounds.

In addition, during the inspection, 104 grams of hashish, 16 audio CDs, 6 various religious books prohibited by law were found at the apartment rented by Guba resident Anar Mirzayev and one grenade, 31 cartridges for slot machine and one bayonet from the apartment of Sumgayit resident Vugar Khalilov.

As a result of the operations, two more men – Sumgayit residents Alim Taghiyev and Firudin Musayev were also detained.

Thus, the number of detainees has reached 13.

Investigation is underway.

Sumgayit residents Anar Rahimov and Elmar Mammadli were stabbed and resident of Teze Jorat settlement Elshan Musayev and Elnur Nazaraliyev received shrapnel wounds as a result of the armed incident between Kharijites and Salafists on December 11.
