Russians detained in Baku meet with families under oversight of Ombudsman

The Russians detained in Baku have met with their families, the Office of the Ombudsman told APA.

It was noted that, on the instruction of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, this issue is being monitored by representatives of the National Preventive Group.

“This group receives their family members at the office, responds to incoming requests in a timely manner and within the framework of the law, grants permission, and provides assistance when necessary. Their next meeting with relatives was held in recent days,” the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan stated.

Note that Igor Kartavikh, Executive Director, and Yevgeniy Belousov, Chief Editor of the Baku branch of the “Rossiya Segodnya” news agency (“Sputnik Azerbaijan”), were detained following an operation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on June 30, 2025, at the agency’s Baku office. The Xətai District Court ordered their pretrial detention.

On July 1, in Baku, two organized criminal groups consisting of Russian citizens were also detained on suspicion of drug transit from Iran, online drug trafficking, and cyber fraud.
