A total of 5,561 criminal cases were detected as a result of comprehensive operational-search measures carried out by law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug addiction and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs in January-August 2026, APA reports, citing the State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.
According to the information, 1,402 of them were related to the illegal sale of narcotic drugs, 4,033 to the illegal acquisition and possession of narcotic drugs, 123 to the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 3 to other crimes in this category.
Of the total 6 tons 994 kg 958.417 grams of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances seized from illegal circulation in connection with the detected cases, 5 tons 928 kg 804.897 grams were marijuana, 376 kg 894.303 grams were heroin, 139 kg 795.918 grams were opium, 247 kg 630.147 grams were hashish, 15.849 grams were cocaine, 129 kg 889.443 grams were other narcotic drugs, and 171 kg 927.36 grams were psychotropic substances.
In addition, 37,082 methadone tablets, 17,372 cannabis plants, 29 psychotropic substance tablets, 1.018 grams of precursors, 32.658 grams and 276 units of potent substances, as well as 970.1 grams of toxic substances were detected and seized.
During the reporting period, 4,124,541 wild-growing narcotic plants with a total wet weight of 391 tons 163 kg were identified on an area of 1,447.5 hectares and destroyed in accordance with the relevant procedures, under the organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and with the participation of representatives of other relevant institutions.
The total value of the 6 tons 994 kg 958.417 grams of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances withdrawn from illegal circulation is estimated at AZN 208.472 million
