In October 2024, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan achieved the following results as part of efforts to ensure the reliable protection of the state border and combat smuggling, illegal migration, and drug trafficking, the Press Center of the State Border Service told APA.

65 individuals were detained for violating the state border. Among them were 22 Pakistani, 13 Azerbaijani, 22 Afghan, 3 Algerian, 1 Iranian, 1 Moroccan, 1 Bangladeshi, 1 Turkish, and 1 Syrian national. 

As part of anti-illegal migration efforts, 14 individuals were detained while attempting to cross the border using forged date stamps, passports, or documents belonging to others.

Additionally, 953 individuals were detained for violating border regime rules, and relevant measures were taken against them.

As a result of anti-crime measures, 319 individuals wanted by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies were detained and handed over to the relevant authorities, while 515 people banned from leaving the country were prevented from exiting, and 21 people banned from entry were prevented from entering the country.

In efforts against drug trafficking, 351 kilograms and 553 grams of narcotics, along with 15,665 pills classified as potent narcotic substances, were seized and removed from illegal circulation.

Anti-smuggling operations led to the seizure of contraband items worth a total of 3,888,079 AZN, including medicines, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products.

Efforts to ensure the reliable protection of state borders continue.
