A court hearing has been held in the criminal case against a serviceman of an Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense military unit, identified as N.A., who was accused of establishing a criminal organization and committing other crimes, APA reports.
During the proceedings held at the Jalilabad Military Court, the criminal acts of the accused, N.A., were proven, and a verdict was delivered.
According to the verdict, N.A. was sentenced to seven years in prison.
He will serve his sentence in a general-regime correctional facility.
According to the charges, N.A. attempted to establish contact with members of a criminal organization allegedly operating in a foreign country, controlled through social media platforms and involved in crimes such as armed attacks, murders, robberies, and armed robberies. He regularly corresponded with several members of the criminal organization through social media and wanted to join the organization in person.
N.A. took weapons and ammunition and left the military unit. He moved in the wrong direction and fired shots into the air to test his weapon. He then contacted individuals he had met on social media to join the criminal organization and fired shots into the air again during the conversation.
Although police officers serving near the area approached him, N.A. refused to obey their orders. To prevent them from approaching, he fired multiple shots from an automatic weapon, first into the air and then at the ground in the direction of a police officer. In doing so, he resisted a representative of the authorities performing official duties by using force.
The relevant authorities were informed of the incident, and N.A. was detained during an operation.
The defendant was found guilty under Articles 177.1, 29, 218.2, 228.1, 232.1, 315, and 334.1 of the Criminal Code.
