A military expert accused of disseminating information constituting a state secret has been arrested, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
It was noted that the prosecutor's office, together with other law enforcement agencies, regularly takes measures against the dissemination of information constituting state secrets, as well as information that sharing is prohibited by law, in media entities and internet resources. During the monitoring conducted on media entities and internet resources, it was determined that on November 22 of this year, it was determined that Adalat Verdiyev, a military expert with special authority, who worked as the chief of the civil defense headquarters of the "Center for Public Health and Reforms" Public Legal Entity of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and served as a qualified officer in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, caused significant damage to the interests ensuring state security and defense capability, leading to serious damages.
A criminal case has been initiated and the preliminary investigation has been entrusted to the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office.
After the investigation, Adalat Verdiyev, who participated in the media tour organized on November 22 to the liberated territories as a military expert, demonstrated and made a video showing the heights where the combat posts of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan are located, the locations of the border troops' deployment, their coordinates, and operational conditions, and made a commentary, reasonable suspicions have been established that he distributed the video through his own social network account to an unlimited number of viewers, that is, by using his official powers, he caused significant damage to the interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan that ensure state security and defense capabilities protected by law, leading to serious damages.
Based on the collected evidence, Adalat Verdiyev was charged with the articles of the Criminal Code of divulging state secrets and abuse of official authority leading to serious consequences, and was remanded in custody by the decision of the Binagadi District Court, based on the investigator's motion and the presentation of the prosecutor conducting the procedural management of the preliminary investigation.
The preliminary investigation into the criminal case is ongoing, and those found guilty in the case will be held accountable and additional information will be provided to the public.
