Azerbaijan-Russia drug trafficking prevented

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov –APA. Drug trafficking on Azerbaijan-Russia route was prevented as a result of joint operation conducted by the ministries of National Security and Internal Affairs. About 62 kg hashish was found during the operation, Public Relations Department of the Ministry of National Security told APA.

Azerbaijani citizens – Khangeldi Aliyev, his brother Firuz Aliyev, Rauf Ahadov, Azer Guliyev and others tried to carry drug out of customs control on Azerbaijan’s border to Russian Federation, but they couldn’t achieve their goal not depending on their wills.

Rauf Ahadov purchased 11 kg and 500 g hashish from the man, whose identity is cleared by the investigators, and tried to carry it to Russia. Khangeldi Aliyev arranged with Rauf Ahadov to receive the drugs from his and sent his brother Firuz Aliyev from Russia to Azerbaijan. Later Khangeldi Aliyev also arrived in Baku from Russia to help his brother in the drug trafficking to Russia. Firuz Aliyev met with Baku-Tumen train guide Azer Guliyev and promised him 5 000 USD for his help in carrying the drugs. The guide accepted his offer.

On November 29 Firuz Aliyev and Azer Guliyev came to Bakikhanov District of Baku and met Rauf Ahadov there. They received 11 kg and 500 g hashish from him and brought the drugs in Azer Guliyev’s Hyundai to the Baku railway station. Azer Guliyev put the drugs in the special hiding under the seats in the train’s carriage he guided.

On November 30 this year, employees of National Security Ministry and Interior Ministry found 11.500kg narcotics were found in the train, Khangeldi Aliyev, Firuz Aliyev, Rauf Ahadov and Azer Guliyev were detained.

It was found out that on November 25, 2008, Azer Guliyev met with an unidentified man near Sherg Bazari trade center and took over 50kg hashish from him. That person told Guliyev to smuggle the narcotics in Tumen city of Russian Federation and promised to give him $25,000. Azer Guliyev accepted the proposal, kept the packages with drugs in his Hyundai for two days and later hid them in the Baku-Tumen train where he worked as a train conductor. On December 1, 2008, Baku-Tumen train, where Azer Guliyev worked as a conductor, was searched and extra 50.142kg hashish was found there.

Investigation Department of the National Security Ministry launched criminal case on the fact on Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code. The above-mentioned persons were held accountable and arrested.

Investigation is underway to determine whether others participated in the illegal actions.
