Baku-APA. The vacationing U.S. President Barack Obama Thursday discussed with his economic team on a plan to be announced next month to shore up U.S. economic growth and job creation, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Obama spoke with his top economic officials including U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, White House Office of Management and Budget Director Jack Lew and National Economic Council chief Gene Sperling over the phone, the U.S. Treasury said in a statement.

They discussed the headway being made on the "new jobs proposals and deficit reduction measures that the economic policy team has been developing this week" for a widely-scrutinized speech that Obama was to deliver after the U.S. Labor Day on Sept. 5, according to the statement.

Obama was expected to unveil a package of measures to stimulate the nation’s slackening economy and reduce the stubbornly high unemployment currently hovering at 9.1 percent, as he cranked up his reelection bid.
